Procedure
Applying gingival dam: In-office teeth whitening is an effective way for shade correction of your teeth. In step 1, after scaling and cleaning the teeth and retracting the cheeks, tongue and isolating the tooth surface, we apply a gingival barrier on the cervical third of the tooth, including the interdental papilla. Gingival dam prevents the bleach from contacting the gums. Check for gaps, and if present, seal it and light cure the barrier for fixing it.
Coating: Applying the whitening solution which is a chemically activated bleaching material. This is applied in layers over the teeth' front surface approximately 1mm thick and is left undisturbed for 15-30 mins for getting absorbed if not using LED curing. The bleaching solution shouldn’t contact the soft tissue as it can irritate, and also saliva shouldn’t interfere with the solution as it can reduce the efficacy of the bleaching solution.
LED curing: Light cure of the bleaching solution is done to speeden up the rate of reaction and increase the efficiency of the whitening solution. This can reduce the treatment time.
Cleaning and polishing:After removing the solution with suction, the surface is rinsed thoroughly with water. The tooth surface is polished using polishing material. Teeth are buffed to give stainless , glossy and smooth enamel. We can apply vitamin E gels for healing in case of gingival burn or irritation.
